Other spin-offs include an eighth season of "Fear the Walking Dead," a stand-alone project about Daryl and Carol and a series of "The Walking Dead: The World Beyond." Meanwhile, the creators of the legendary series have another surprise for fans: The Walking Dead will have a fifth spin-off.
The new series will focus on Negan and Maggie, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan reprising their roles. The film will be set in a post-apocalyptic New York, where the characters will have to fight to survive and battle the zombies that have taken over the world. "This new project allows us to explore life on the island of Manhattan and show it through the lens of the zombie apocalypse," said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios. Although the writers are reluctant to share details about the plot of the fifth spin-off, but, according to Morgan, the new series will be exciting: the actor pointed to the separate script and said that it perfectly reveals the possibilities of the city, which will develop the action.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that six episodes will be shot and the showrunner will be Eli Horn, who previously wrote the script for the original version of The Walking Dead. Morgan and Cohan will not only star, but also executive produce the film. We already know when the spin-off will be released: the release of Island of the Dead is scheduled for 2023.
Maggie first appeared in the second season of the original series. In 2019, Lauren Cohan briefly separated from the franchise to star in the series Whiskey Cavalier. The actress returned for the ninth season of the project, but continued to rarely appear on screen. And it was not until the tenth season that her character was able to fully reveal itself again - "Cavalier Whiskey" closed, and Lauren returned to devote all her time to the filming of "Walking Dead". Geoffrey Dean Morgan's character made his debut in the fifth season finale. Since then, Negan has become a recurring character in the series.
In addition, the sequel to the post-apocalyptic series will not only contain the story of Nygan and Maggie, but also that of Robert Neville, the protagonist of the film "I am a legend". Will Smith will reprise his role. He will be joined by Michael B. Jordan, the star of "Black Panther", in the sequel of the popular film.
