As a child, Monkey D. Luffy accidentally ate the Devil's Fruit, after which his body acquired unique properties. As he grows up, the boy decides to follow his dream: to search for the mysterious Van Pis treasure, hidden by the famous pirate Gol D. Roger, and become the king of pirates himself. He forms a team called the Straw Hat Pirates. He is joined by the swordsman Roronoa Zoro, the navigator and thief Nami, the pathological liar Usopp and the Winsmok leader Sanji. Together, they set out to discover the Great Line.

The manga's creator, Eiichiro Oda, announced that Netflix has ordered the first season in January 2020. Work on the adaptation was delayed due to the pandemic and resumed in 2021. The showrunner for the project was Stephen Maeda, with Mark Jobst directing. The screenplay was written by Matt Owens. He was also an executive producer along with Eiichiro Oda. The lead roles were played by Iñaki Godoy (Munkie D. Luffy), Makenyu (Roronoa Zoro), Emily Rudd (Nami), Jacob Romero Gibson (Usopp) and Taz Skylar (Sanji).

The show's release date is not yet known
